Troubleshooting

What to do when an audit gets stuck, fails, or doesn't behave the way you expected.

Audit Stuck on "Running"

Each device in an audit has a hard timeout, so a run can't hang forever — if it's still shown as running well past a few minutes, refresh the page first, since the status may simply not have updated live. If it's genuinely stuck, delete it and start a new audit.

"GhostClick's Audit Service Hit a Temporary Problem"

This specific message means the failure was on our side — a capacity limit, a rate limit, or a network issue with one of the services GhostClick depends on — not something wrong with your site. When this happens, your audit credit is automatically returned and you can try again shortly. If it keeps happening, get in touch.

Info

A run that fails for any other reason — the agent got stuck, a constraint was violated, the site returned an error — still counts as a completed audit. Only infrastructure-side failures return the credit.

Cookie Banners and Popups

You don't need to configure anything for these. GhostClick automatically recognises cookie consent banners, newsletter popups, promotional overlays, and similar interruptions, and dismisses them as part of the run. They're logged as obstacles on the report rather than treated as part of your journey goal, so they won't normally cause a failure on their own — but a persistent obstacle that blocks the rest of the page is still reported so you can see it.

The Journey Keeps Failing

A few things to try, roughly in order:

  • Read the AI assessment and the specific failed step — it usually names exactly what the agent couldn't do
  • Make the journey goal more specific (name the product, page, or button you expect)
  • Add a constraint to steer the agent away from a path that keeps tripping it up
  • Check whether the page now requires a store password or login it didn't before — see Password-protected & login-gated stores
  • Check the "Likely fix" panel — after a couple of consecutive failures GhostClick's advisor suggests a specific change

Adding Constraints

Constraints are plain-English rules that guide the agent without changing the goal itself — for example "do not create an account" or "shipping cost must be visible before checkout". Add them when creating a new audit, or edit them later from a saved journey's settings (gear icon). If the agent violates a constraint during a run, it's flagged as an issue on the report.

My Store URL Won't Load

Double-check the URL is publicly reachable from outside your network — GhostClick runs in a cloud browser, not from your office or a VPN, so anything restricted to specific IP addresses (a staging environment behind a firewall, for example) won't be reachable. A store password or login wall is different and is handled automatically; see above.

Still Stuck?

If none of this explains what you're seeing, reach out from the Help Center with the audit URL and roughly when it ran — that's usually enough for us to look up exactly what happened.
